Suomi-Gambia Yhdistys RY celebrates the 51st Independence of the Gambia on the 27th February 2016. This year’s celebration brought together Gambians and friends of The Gambia and was characterised by speeches, music, game and quiz for children.

Speaking at the celebration Saikou Marong, the newly elected Chairperson said the significance of independence celebration cannot be over emphasised as it is a moment of reflection and celebration. According to him, Gambians should take stock of how far we have gone as individuals and as an immigrant community in Finland. What did we achieve and what more can we do to represent the true image of our country. He further went on to say that independence is also a moment to celebrate the heroes who fought 51 years ago for Gambia to attain independence.

Mr. Marong also disclosed that there are series of plans underway to restructure the association and this requires financial and human resource commitment from the entire Gambian community in Finland. According to him, we can only achieve the set goals if we come together as one with a clear vision.
